Where the Ledger terminates — and where lineage stops meaning much
This is Jonathan Hare's account, with its provenance shown. The person or organization named has not yet claimed or corrected it.
Holy Roman Emperor, crowned 800. The point at which the family record runs out of documents.
An honest note attached at Jonathan Hare's instruction rather than removed. Descent from Charlemagne is close to universal among people of European ancestry. Ancestors double each generation, so forty generations back the theoretical count exceeds the population that existed — which means lines collapse into each other repeatedly, and almost everybody with European ancestry descends from almost every European of that era who left descendants at all.
S-086 adds the Westphalia trail: the Holy Roman Empire this man founded is where the Thirty Years War was fought — the war the Peace of Westphalia ended by changing the coordination architecture rather than settling the theology, which is chapter ten of the unification essay, written by a descendant. The empire produced the war; the war produced the first architecture of coexistence-without-convergence; and the family line runs through all of it, per the ledger, with the population-genetics honesty above still governing what the claim does and does not say.
Per S-146, the Carolingian descent runs through the Stansberry tree — one of the four books — carrying the Holy Roman Empire nobility and the stated Windsor, Baden, and Bismarck relations at family grade, with the Merovingian passage held where it has always been held: at lore.
Each entry below carries its own provenance — the source, and how it was processed. That is the condition on which this graph can be extended by anyone without degrading.
The trail exists so that people who were there can reconstruct their own memories, recognize what they helped incubate, and add to or correct the record — or forward the few pages that belong to someone they know.
The usual reading is deflationary: if everyone descends from Charlemagne, descent from Charlemagne is worthless.
The more interesting reading is the opposite. Go back far enough and the graph is fully connected. There is no meaningful separation between lineages, only different paths through the same structure — which is exactly the claim this architecture makes about a manifold with no privileged root. Ancestry, examined properly, is the earliest and most universal demonstration that everyone is already in the same graph and the only question is which route you take through it.
There is no single root. This is one view of the graph, from this node — what you see depends on where you enter and what you are looking for.
