The engagement layer

Every comment, correction, share and endorsement on this record is a contribution. Today they vanish into somebody else's advertising inventory. Below is a working mock-up of what happens when they don't — and an open request to the one organization that decides to build it.

The argument

Why a static site has comments on it at all

The attention economy pays for outrage because outrage is what holds attention. That is not a moral failing of any platform; it is what happens when the thing being sold is time rather than outcome.

This record proposes the inversion. Someone who corrects a date here, supplies the name of the investor who hosted the chalet evening, or confirms what Myron Scholes said in a conference room in 1988 has done something the attention economy has no way to value — and that this one is built to settle against.

So the engagement layer is not a feature bolted onto a website. It is the smallest possible working instance of the thing the architecture claims.

What it looks like

The mock-up

Three things are doing work here that a normal comment section does not do. Corrections outrank agreement. Witnesses outrank the crowd — someone who was in the room is weighted above someone who was not, and the record says which is which. And an unanswered objection stays visible rather than being buried by votes.

The Quadrus complex detail is right but Oak Hill was on the second floor, not directly below NEA. Minor, but it is the kind of thing somebody will check.

I was in that room in December 2008. The exchange is accurate. I would add that the objection came from two people, not one, and the second was more direct than the first.

Skeptical of the Freeman analysis. Portfolio-level P&L on the alleged tip dates is suggestive but not dispositive — you would need the hedge ratios.

Signed contributions are attributed and recorded. Anonymous ones are recorded and weighted lower.
How engagement composes

Two loops, not one

Outward — the platforms

Comments, likes, shares, duets, stitches and threads on the networks people already use. That traffic is measurable today, attributable today, and can be rewarded today through ordinary revenue share, affiliate and creator programs.

Inward — this record

Corrections, witness accounts, named sources, supplied documents. Not measurable by any existing platform, because none of them has a way to value a person who tells you that your date is wrong.

What connects them

EasyAccess. A share that produces a first-time reader who then supplies a correction is one causal chain, and the architecture settles along it — to the sharer and to the corrector, in proportion to what each caused.

Why this is the honest test

If the model cannot fairly reward the people improving a single public record, it will not fairly reward anything larger. This is the smallest case, run in the open, where the failure would be visible.

The request

Build it, and it is yours to have built

This is a static record. Comments, identity, weighting and settlement require a platform, and building one from scratch would be the wrong use of the next year.

So this is an open request to the organizations that already have all of it — Google, Meta, TikTok, xAI, Bluesky, Reddit, Discord, Substack, or anyone else with an identity layer and a comment system. Implement the engagement layer for this record as a Consilient Contribution.

What we are asking for

Authenticated identity, threaded comments, reactions, and an event stream we can attribute against. Standard product surface. Nothing that has to be invented.

What it is worth to you

It is recorded as a founding contribution to the network, attributed permanently and settled retrospectively against what it caused — which, if this works at all, is the participation of everyone who arrives through it.

Why it is not a favor

It is a live demonstration, on your infrastructure, that your existing engagement surface can be pointed at something other than attention capture. That is a claim your own product organization would like to be able to make.

What we will not do

Ask for exclusivity, ask for money, or take a dependency that cannot be replaced. The record is CC BY 4.0 and the architecture is openly licensed. If you build it and later withdraw, the contribution stands and the record survives.

Take it on

Write to evidence@qpncatalyst.io and Jonathan directly (both on the button) with what you propose to build and on what timeline. A timestamped confirmation returns with your message attached, as your own independent record of when you offered.

Until then

What already works

Nothing here is blocked on a partner. Every page carries share controls, the record is openly licensed, and corrections arrive by email and are published with the sender's name on them.
