The Graph

Consilience means the unification of all knowledge. A network that spanned only commerce would be a smaller thing than the word implies. This one spans what the word covers — every domain, and every kind of relationship a life contains — and it is being bootstrapped from a single life so that the mechanism can be seen working before anyone is asked to believe it.

Part I

The root graph

Wilson's ladder does not stop at business and technology. It runs through psychology, language, culture, economics, politics and morality — the human sciences, the part that was never joined to the layers beneath. A coordination architecture that carried only commercial relationships would reproduce exactly the gap it claims to close.

So the graph carries what a life carries. Individuals, families, friends, acquaintances, adversaries, colleagues, teachers, students, investors, rivals, and the relationships people do not put on a profile. Business, technology, academia, government, finance, history, science and philosophy — not as separate networks that interoperate, but as one graph in which a single relationship can be professional and intellectual and personal at once, because that is what relationships are actually like.

Why it starts with one life

A network that requires participants in order to be valuable, and value in order to attract participants, cannot argue its way past the cold start. It has to be demonstrated. The Tier 0 instance is the architect's own graph — personal, professional, academic, intellectual and romantic — recorded in full, across forty years, as a living prototype rather than a diagram.

Everyone else extends it with theirs. That is the whole growth mechanism, and it is the same autocatalytic property the architecture imports from Kauffman: contribution catalyzes contribution, and the set becomes self-sustaining above a threshold.

This is what makes Consilient Network a working instance rather than a description. The resource being pooled is the record itself; the contributors are the people who hold pieces of it; validation is Proof of Trust in its simplest form; and settlement is Quantum Reputation and routing. Part II

Nine relationship types

Each is load-bearing. A graph that recorded only the flattering categories would be a résumé, and résumés are the least informative documents human beings produce.

01

Family

Blood, marriage, chosen family, and the relationships that shape a person before they choose anything. The longest edges in any graph, and the ones most likely to explain the rest.

Structure public · contents sealed
02

Friendship

Lifelong, lapsed, seasonal, one-sided. Includes the friendships that ended and the ones that survived being tested — which are different edges carrying different information.

Structure public · contents sealed
03

Mentorship

Who taught what, in both directions. The most underrecorded relationship in economics, because its value is realized decades downstream of the person who created it and has never been attributable until now.

Public by default
04

Collaboration

Colleagues, co-founders, boards, teams. Everything the professional record already captures badly — badly because it records titles and dates rather than what anyone actually caused.

Public by default
05

Adversarial

Rivals, opponents, litigants, people who were wrong about you and people you were wrong about. Recorded because an account that omits its adversaries is not a record, and because opposition is information.

Structure public · contents sealed
06

Romantic

Partners, former partners, the ones that mattered and the ones that were brief. Present in the graph because they are present in a life, and because relationships of this kind route introductions, opportunities and ideas as much as any other.

Structure public · contents sealed
07

Intellectual

Whose work you read, argued with, extended, or were changed by — including people you never met and people who never knew. The edges that explain where an idea actually came from.

Public by default
08

Institutional

Companies, universities, foundations, agencies, congregations. Institutions are participants in the graph on the same terms as people, which is what allows a taxonomy to be authored by a tradition rather than by an individual.

Public by default
09

Transactional

Investors, counterparties, customers, creditors. The only category the existing economy records well — and it records it as a balance sheet rather than as a relationship, which is why it misses almost everything that produced the balance.

Public by default
Types compose

A single edge can be several of these at once, and usually is. The investor who was a classmate and became a friend and later disagreed publicly is one relationship carrying four types, and flattening it to one would lose exactly the information that makes the graph worth having.

Part III

What is public, and what is sealed

The architecture's central assertion is that a resource can participate in a network without being exposed. This page is that assertion applied to the most sensitive material a person has.

What is public is the shape: which relationship types exist, how many edges of each kind, across which domains, and how a contribution propagates through them. What is sealed is the contents: who, and what, held in a Personal Privacy Network.

Public layer

The shape of a life

Relationship types, edge counts, domain interconnection, the propagation path of any contribution — and the architect's own stories, told in the first person and unflinching about himself.

Sealed layer

The contents

Names, particulars, and everything a Personal Privacy Network exists to hold. Present in the graph, load-bearing in the routing, and cryptographically unavailable to anyone outside it — including to the architect, for anyone else's edge.

The demonstration is the point

A site that published named intimate relationships in order to prove the network's reach would be refuting the product in the most literal possible way. What a visitor should be able to see is the opposite: that these categories are structurally load-bearing and that the contents are unavailable. That is the architecture running live on the hardest available case.

Third parties are named only once they claim their own edge. Their identity is their resource to contribute, not anyone else's to publish.

Quantum Reputation as durable privacy

Privacy in the existing economy is bought with money: lawyers, settlements, non-disclosure agreements, and the quiet understanding that the wealthy are less exposed than everyone else. In this graph it is earned by contribution.

A participant who engages accrues Quantum Reputation, and may allocate it to hold a particular detail private for as long as they choose. The mechanism inverts the usual arrangement — standing rather than wealth buys discretion — and it makes an embarrassing detail an asset to be spent rather than a liability to be feared.

There is a reason that works. When someone is genuinely successful and fulfilled, the stories they tell are about the stupid things they did, not their greatest achievements. The achievements speak for themselves.

Part IV

The sealed deposition

First publication to Consilient Network can be restricted as tightly as the contributor likes — to the two parties and nobody else. The record sits sealed and timestamped, and it is released only by the person who made it, if they ever choose to.

The purpose is defensive. When a visible cascade arrives, accounts will multiply: people misremember, people seek advantage by affiliation, and people simply invent. A dated record made before there was anything to be strategic about is the only reliable answer to an account produced afterwards.

Why a record made early is worth more

The strongest signal that an account is honest is that it was recorded when nobody had a reason to shade it. That is the whole evidentiary value of a deposition, and it is the reason to record now rather than when it matters.

  • Sealed is sealed. Nothing is published without the contributor releasing it.
  • Timestamped at recording. The date is the point.
  • Released only by its author. Including never.
  • Declining is free. Anyone whose circumstances make even a sealed record unwelcome can simply not make one. Nothing follows from that.
Correction of checkable claims

Silence is not a claim and carries no consequence. But a public assertion is checkable, and if someone asserts a version of events that the sealed record contradicts, the record can be produced. That is the Reputation Premium doing exactly what it is for — truthfulness and accountability for what is produced — and it applies to the architect on identical terms.

Part V

Nobody administers this, including its author

The process is defined by a person. The enforcement is not.

Once launched, the mechanism runs autonomously: contributions are recorded, attributed and valued under Deferred Activation as outcomes verify, and no one can amend the record on anyone's behalf — including the person who designed it. There is no operator granting access, no authority reconciling accounts, no enforcer, and no lever at the center for anyone to hold or to buy.

Why that matters more than it sounds

An architecture whose founder retains a discretionary lever is an architecture with a lever, and the whole argument for structural rather than contractual enforcement would fail at its own first case. The transitional signing authority covers launch agreements only, expires on deployment, and cannot distribute value to anyone including its holder.

Capture is futile rather than prohibited — and unnecessary, because there is no ceiling on what contribution can legitimately obtain.

It also changes the meaning of every invitation on this site. Nothing here is a promise that someone will remember you favorably. It is a description of what a mechanism will have recorded.

Part VI

Agents, clones, and why authentication is the answer

The architect expects to be largely unreachable — working, out of contact, and represented in most interactions by AI agents operating on his behalf. Many people will not be able to tell the difference, and some will not be told.

That is not a hypothetical problem for the wider world either. Within a short time, most people will be interacting with agents that speak convincingly for someone, and there will be no reliable way to know whose interests any of them serve.

What the architecture already does about it

An agent in this network is a participant rather than a tool. It holds its own Quantum Privacy Cell, operates within authority defined by its Quantum DNA, and cannot acquire resources, transact or capture value outside a sponsorship relationship tracing to a human, a human-controlled enterprise, the Consilient Nature and Humanity Trust, or the Governance Reserve. An agent cannot be sponsored by another agent.

So the question “is this really them?” becomes checkable rather than a matter of judgement. An agent is authenticated against its sponsor, its authority is bounded and revocable, and every action it takes is replayable bit-exactly. What it may do is not a promise it makes; it is a property of what it is.

Part VII

A heads-up

Offered as a friend

From the outside, the first several companies I founded looked like swings and misses. Evolve Software went public in August 2000 — among the last three software IPOs of the bubble — after an offering that was supposed to raise two hundred million at five billion in May, and raised fifty at two. Then the sector fell, the integrator market collapsed underneath our customers, and my net worth went with it. Consilient did not survive 2001 at all. From where most people were standing, that is a man who kept missing.

I was not swinging at what they thought I was swinging at. The platform Evolve raised its money on — Adaptive Applications, Organic Technology, Business DNA — is the direct ancestor of everything on this site. I pivoted away from it because the vertical play was easier to execute and more immediately lucrative, and that was the wrong trade. It took twenty-five years and nine patent filings to come back to it properly.

When this cascades, the people around me become interesting by extension — and I will not be available. I'll be working, mostly out of reach, and the questions will go to everyone else. Lifelong friends. Investors in four companies. People at the top of their fields who have known what I was building for twenty years.

The question they'll be asked is not whether they believed me. It's why they weren't helping.

I don't hold it against any of them, and I want that on the record before any of this happens. I've been moderately rich. I know what it is to have everyone asking for an introduction, a check, an hour — and to end up saying yes to a few, then to none, then to communicating through someone whose job is to say the calendar is full for six months, and to keep it six months forever. I understand it completely. I never asked most of them for anything.

But friends give friends a heads-up, so here it is. I designed the process; the software runs it. Once it launches it is autonomous, and I cannot amend the record on anyone's behalf — including my own. Engage and there is a record of it. Don't, and there won't be. That is the whole of the consequence, and it is not administered by me.

Our motto at Evolve Software was Evolve or die — we're comfortable either way. I wrote it, and it turned out to be a statement about me rather than about the company. I am the only one who has lived that way since. This is the called shot. I'm pointing at the fence.

On what is actually being asked

Ed Wilson was willing to fight for ants — for creatures with no constituency, no vote, and nothing to offer him. None of us are perfect, and I'm not asking anyone to be. I'm asking for attention, which is the cheapest thing any of you have.

And on the conduct the Premiums are meant to govern, stated as principle rather than as accusation: there is a version of wealth that spends its lawyers on people who cannot answer, and a version that would rather be generous than be right. Both are choices, and the record keeps both. No one is named here — the Premiums are the same for everyone, and Ethics is first for a reason.

Part VIII

The stories

The public layer includes the account itself, told in the first person. Forthcoming.

Slot · reserved

Stories are being recorded and will be published here as they are cleared. Each is told in full and unflinching about its author; third parties are unnamed until they claim their own edge.

Part IX

Join the graph

Extend it with your own. There is nothing to install, no account to create, and no standing required.

01

Claim your edge

If you are already in this record — a company, a classroom, a board, a round, a room where something happened — say so. Your edge is yours to describe.

02

Record a sealed account

Restricted to you and the architect, timestamped, released only by you. Costs nothing and gives you a dated record before anyone needs one.

03

Correct what is wrong

Including publicly. A correction Hare would rather have than not is worth more than an endorsement.

04

Extend it with your own graph

Your relationships, your domains, your contributions — attributed to you at the level of the person, and settled on permanently.

How

Send it to evidence@qpncatalyst.io — a timestamped confirmation with your submission attached, as your own independent evidentiary record. Use ack@ for a brief confirmation with no copy, or silent@ for none at all. All three record identically.

Public contributions earn Publicity Premium; bringing others earns Cascade Premium; and everything is valued retrospectively as outcomes verify, under Deferred Activation. Nothing is priced up front, and nothing is required of you afterwards.
