I'm a direct descendant of Oliver Cromwell, the Lord Protector of the Realm. In fact, it's related to my Seventh-day Adventist upbringing. They had a tendency to search church records to trace your lineage going back as far as possible. Our family lineage goes back through Prince William of Orange and Mary. It goes through him to — there's also a connection to, which may be separate, I'm not sure — to Oliver Cromwell, Lord Protector of the Realm, and his son. And before that, all the way back to Charlemagne, because of course there was a lot of interbreeding among the royalty. However, there is a direct traced lineage. There's a book that's updated every 20 years or so where they just go for every family member, which children you have. So they literally keep track of who begat whom like the Bible did, going back as far as they had records.
So the interesting parallel I want to draw with Oliver Cromwell was: he was the Lord Protector of the Realm when Isaac Newton was born, and up until he was whatever, 12 or 18 years old. And there's a narrative about how he appointed those scientists to those positions. Basically, there's a connection between my ancestor and Isaac Newton.
I've studied Isaac Newton's history. I studied the history of all notable scientists going back to antiquity, back to the earliest recorded scientists, the Greeks and before. And so I feel some kinship there, and I'm just trying to draw those connections — that my family had something to do with forming what became the Royal Society that Isaac Newton ran. And also, in addition to doing gravity and light and everything else he did, laws of motion, he also ran the Royal Mint, and money. He was very interested in money and gold and alchemy.

What is checkable and what is not. The historical facts are matters of public record and are stated as such on the derived pages: Cromwell was Lord Protector from December 1653 to September 1658; John Wilkins was his brother-in-law by marriage to Robina Cromwell in 1656 and was appointed Warden of Wadham College; the Oxford experimental club preceded the Royal Society, which was founded in 1660 and chartered by Charles II in 1662; Newton was born in 1643, was a schoolboy in Lincolnshire throughout the protectorate, did the gravitation work in 1665–66, and served at the Royal Mint from 1696.
The genealogical claim is family record and is published as such. Two caveats are attached on the pages rather than removed: descent from Charlemagne is close to universal among people of European ancestry for arithmetic reasons; and Cromwell's legitimate male line ended, so any descent runs through a daughter and would require a document to confirm.
One correction to the dictation: the son who briefly succeeded Cromwell was Richard. Robert was Cromwell's father.
