Iris Steine is a social friend who I invited to a James Bond theme party at Carlos Bustamante's house (the Carlos Bustamante who was a professor at Stanford Medicine, Chair of the Stanford Department of Computational Biology) in October 2019 (my BMW Z8 was the perfect Bond Car, since James Bond drove the first one every made in 1999), reconnected in November 2024 when I invited her to the Nobel Sustainability Trust Summit at UC Berkeley (which she couldn't attend), and then was a prospective but ultimately unsuccessful candidate to be a Consilient Angel in June of 2026.
Both Jim and Louis Woodhill were investors in a number of my ventures. Jim Woodhill invested in Series A of Evolve Software, possibly Consilient (maybe a nominal amount, like $5k), Resilient (the original one, with Matthew Spolin), and Resilient Network Systems. Louis Woodhill was a major investor in Resilient Network Systems. He was a key part of the coup that forced me out of Resilient Network Systems, so I didn't ask him to invest in WebShield.
Ruth Parasol may have been an investor in Evolve - she definitely had money to invest. She was more of a close personal friend, Russ Deleon's girlfriend and then wife, who she co-founded Party Gaming with. We've taken joint vacations together with Russ and Tullan, including one up the coast of Italy to France, and quite a few weekend trips up to Sea Ranch, Mendecino, etc. Suffice it say, we've done a few naked hot tubs together - the mark of a truly good friend.
