Helen and Alan Perry are family - helen is the daughter of my great uncle Harold Hare, sister to Dodi Hare and Anne Hare. Anne was the first of the sisters to reconnect with my mother and us boys after my dad disappeared for a few years at Synanon (we had no idea where he was for maybe three or four years after we stopped going to the Magic Forest when we hit puberty and mom cut it off.) I then met Dodi for the first time since I was a baby, and she was a very beautiful high end real estate agent for McGuire Reality in San Francisco, so she took me out to dinner and night clubs regularly when I at UC Berkeley, teaching me the ways of the wealthy and rich, we went to all the best restaurants. I became close with many of her closest friends and colleagues. Anne Hare died in a tragic plane crash in 1988 or so (her very old boyfriend had a 1930's era biplane that he showed in vintage airshows, and they died when the engine failed over Santa Cruz or nearby. I got to know Helen Hare for the first time then - Dodi and I flew to meet Helen and Alan and meet their new baby Jacqueline in Kettering Ohio, where he was doing his plastic surgery residency.
Christy Turlington was my fantasy dream girl that I chased for years, and seriously thought I had a shot if I could just meet her properly between her celebrity boyfriends. I met her a couple of times in large Group situations (Moby concert in 2000, and another fashion party later that year), but never had a proper dinner date, end she ended up marrying Ed Burns, so I gave up the quest.
Jeanne Bayless, Yoffie and Burgelman are mentors, and Jeanne and Yoffie became friends. Jeanne was my boss, but we were personally very close. She was like a big sister. She later dated my former boss and mentor Jim Malernee. Yoffie was a mentor, close to Mark Wolfson, Burgleman, Myron Scholes, etc. He visited at Stanford from his tenured position at Harvard Business School, was in the Bay Area very regularly because he was on the boards of Intel and Charles Schwab among others, and joined the board of Evolve Software. We stay in touch very regularly, and I've met him a dozen times at his office at Harvard.
Wyc Grousbeck (the longtime owner of the Celtics, son of Irv Grousbeck) as a classmate and friend at GSB. We were section mates, where a Stanford GSB section is group of about 80 students that take all of the main core courses together, so we knew each other much better than we did other classmates.
