Dodi Hare

The cousin who taught a commune boy the ways of the wealthy, one great restaurant at a time

About this entry

This is Jonathan Hare's account, with its provenance shown. The person or organization named has not yet claimed or corrected it.

Person

Who this is

Dodi Jonathan Hare — daughter of great-uncle Harold Hare, sister to Anne and Helen — re-entered Hare's life during his Berkeley years, when he had not seen her since he was a baby. A high-end real-estate agent with McGuire Real Estate in San Francisco, and by his account very beautiful, she took him to dinner and nightclubs regularly — all the best restaurants — teaching a boy raised on a Marxist-Leninist commune the ways of the wealthy. He became close with many of her closest friends and colleagues: a second education running alongside the IEOR degree, and part of how the network the record calls Foundations was actually grown.

When Anne died, it was Dodi and Jonathan who flew together to Kettering, Ohio, to meet Helen and Alan Perry and their new baby Jacqueline.

Where this intersects the work

Each entry below carries its own provenance — the source, and how it was processed. That is the condition on which this graph can be extended by anyone without degrading.

The trail exists so that people who were there can reconstruct their own memories, recognize what they helped incubate, and add to or correct the record — or forward the few pages that belong to someone they know.

The ways of the wealthy

Berkeley taught him to design systems; Dodi taught him which fork, which room, and which people — the curriculum no engineering department offers and every later chapter assumed. The record files it where it belongs: in Foundations of Networks, as literally as the phase name allows.
