Founding CEO of Asera; met through Ron Ellis; the channel through which Ajit Nazre entered the story
This is Jonathan Hare's account, with its provenance shown. The person or organization named has not yet claimed or corrected it.
Warren 'Bunny' Weiss, met through Ron Ellis, was founding CEO of Asera, with Vinod Khosla as founding chairman. Asera's strategy ran remarkably close to Evolve's original grand strategy — composite applications to Evolve's adaptive applications, more mechanistic where Evolve was organic — and its architecture was, by Jonathan Hare's assessment, far superior to most of the field's, with backing that read like the era's power map: Ray Lane at Oracle, plus Cisco, Intel and SAP. Everyone Hare knew had heard of them. Through this channel Ajit Nazre came to do due diligence on Hare's company, and the threads converged at Kleiner Perkins when Nazre and Ray Lane joined the firm at the same moment — met independently, converged institutionally, which is how that valley worked.
The public record corroborates and extends S-070's account: Weiss served as President and CEO of Asera for two years — his last operating role before joining Foundation Capital as a General Partner in 2002, where he is now Partner Emeritus — and he is a four-time CEO, today founder and partner at WestWave Capital. The nickname is confirmed in his own firms' biographies: known affectionately as Bunny, which the record was already using on Hare's authority and now uses on his own.
