As founding chairman of Asera — Bunny Weiss's company, whose strategy paralleled Evolve's — he was co-investing alongside Weiss when the diligence channel to Jonathan Hare opened. And with John Doerr and Brook Byers, he was one of the three friends who lured Ray Lane from the presidency of Oracle to a partnership at Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers — the move Lane announced to Hare personally after two weeks of warned-about radio silence.
