Met through the Asera channel; the convergence at KPCB was coincidence with the structure of an inevitability
This is Jonathan Hare's account, with its provenance shown. The person or organization named has not yet claimed or corrected it.
Ajit Nazre came to Jonathan Hare through the Asera channel to do due diligence, and had done a substantial amount of it by the time the story's second thread caught up: Nazre joined Kleiner Perkins at the same time Ray Lane did. Hare had met the two entirely independently — Lane through Oracle's technical champions and the Santa Fe Institute trustee network, Nazre through Bunny Weiss — and they converged on the same firm in the same season. Nazre had the diligence; Lane, largely credited with driving Oracle's spectacular sales growth, had the clout to drive the spectacular deal Hare was looking for. What became of that deal is exactly where the source record's thread frays, and the ask is filed on Ray Lane's page.
