Asera, founded with Bunny Weiss as CEO and Vinod Khosla as chairman, pursued a strategy strikingly aligned with Evolve's original grand design — composite applications where Evolve built adaptive ones, mechanistic where Evolve was organic — with what Jonathan Hare rates as a far superior architectural approach to most of the field, and backing from Ray Lane at Oracle, Cisco, Intel and SAP. In this record it matters mostly as a junction: the channel through which Ajit Nazre's diligence arrived, one of the two independent threads that converged at Kleiner Perkins, and a mirror that helps date what Evolve's strategy actually was — because when two teams that never compared notes build the same missing layer with different temperaments, the layer, not the temperament, is the signal.
