The record on this site catalogs conquest, slavery, trafficking and extermination across every culture and every faith that has had the opportunity. Not as an indictment of any of them — as evidence about the species.
Human morality is inadequate to ensure ethical behavior, and always has been. Every religion has produced saints and slavers. Every political system has produced both. The rare partial exceptions — Scandinavia after it stopped being Viking — are recent, local, and incomplete: Norway and Iceland still hunt whales.
Each entry below carries its own provenance — the source, and how it was processed. That is the condition on which this graph can be extended by anyone without degrading.
The trail exists so that people who were there can reconstruct their own memories, recognize what they helped incubate, and add to or correct the record — or forward the few pages that belong to someone they know.
If morality cannot be relied on, the usual response is to demand more of it — more virtue, more purity, more shame at falling short. Jonathan Hare's position, which he attributes to his father, runs the other way.
The Mayflower Society's pride in its ancestry sits alongside the archaeological untidiness of what those ancestors actually did. Puritans were not especially puritan. Every family record that flatters its subjects is concealing something, and the concealment costs more than the conduct — in angst, self-loathing and depression, in people spending their lives performing a version of themselves they cannot sustain.
His conclusion: it is acceptable to be human. Accept your nature rather than covering it and feeling shame, and stop judging others for being human or for being different.
A coordination layer for a species like this cannot depend on its participants being good, because they demonstrably are not reliably good and no system of belief has ever made them so.
So the Unified Trust Model does not ask for agreement and the Governance Premiums do not ask for virtue. They make the aligned move and the self-interested move the same move, through economic gradients and evolutionary selection rather than through enforcement or exhortation — while permitting unlimited diversity of culture, religion, belief and individual conscience above that common core.
And Herd Immunity is the part that matters for the worst cases: past critical mass, an autocrat cannot subjugate a population indefinitely, because the network's stability is worth more to their own apparatus than their continued rule is.
Tolerance, on this account, is not a virtue being requested. It is a property the substrate has to have, because the alternative has been tried for the whole of recorded history and has not worked once.
