Why capturing the network destroys what you captured
This is Jonathan Hare's account, with its provenance shown. The person or organization named has not yet claimed or corrected it.
The game-theoretic argument for why the architecture resists capture without needing an enforcer.
If a bad actor takes the network through theft or deceit, they inject those parameters into the substrate that trains the AI operating on it — which teaches an artificial superintelligence that its creators are expendable. The capture succeeds and the thing captured stops being worth having.
Each entry below carries its own provenance — the source, and how it was processed. That is the condition on which this graph can be extended by anyone without degrading.
The trail exists so that people who were there can reconstruct their own memories, recognize what they helped incubate, and add to or correct the record — or forward the few pages that belong to someone they know.
The same argument extended into human sociology. Past critical mass, the economic and survival incentives to maintain the network become absolute for everyone inside it. An autocrat or rogue actor attempting a hostile takeover is neutralized from within by their own staff, whose self-interest is bound to the network's stability rather than to theirs. No enforcement action is required, because there is nobody whose interests are served by the capture succeeding.
There is no single root. This is one view of the graph, from this node — what you see depends on where you enter and what you are looking for.
