He joined after Jonathan Hare presented the invention to him and five colleagues — doctorates in cryptography, networking, mathematics, linguistics, probably physics — who challenged it with every exploit they could think of, framed in the abstract because Hare held no clearance. He answered as fast as they could ask, because the answers were mathematics and logic rather than cryptography.
His method: rate ideas from insane-but-possible to provably impossible, and prioritize the former, because that is where zero-day exploits come from. Real geniuses accept direction from nobody; they have to be channeled and inspired rather than managed.
Peggy Hamburg knew the whole Haseltine family but had no number for Eric after he left as CTO to the Director of National Intelligence.
