The reason I was never in the picture, is that nobody in those days (2000) used their phones to take pictures, and I wasn't a New York socialite, so the photographers that wandered around taking pictures of people they recognized as wealthy socialites that like to have pictures of themselves at society parties, or which they could sell later (maybe decades later) like paparazzi for the wealthy but not actually that famous - they didn't ask me to be in the picture. I was probably standing off to the left, out of frame, before the the photographer was finished getting his shot of the two people he recognized (Ghislane and Donald Trump), and the third they didn't recognize as anybody other than Trump's latest starlet / model companion. I was waiting for Ghislane to finish her routine, perfunctory, absolutely meaningless picture at a party with 200 people, so we could finish our conversation about the Santa Fe Institute, and meeting up in there so we could admire the stars from the communal hot tub at 100,000 Waves, a zen massage and spa place on top of a mountain. With very high end hotel rooms, by the way - you should visit.

This record completes the sentence S-089 preserved as garbled, and the completion closes the ask on Melania Knauss's page. The explanation is a period mechanism, stated cleanly: in 2000 nobody photographed parties with phones; the wandering society photographers — paparazzi for the wealthy but not actually that famous, as Hare has it — shot only the people they recognised, which at that moment meant Maxwell and Trump, with the third figure registering to them as nothing more than Trump's latest model companion. Hare stood off to the left, out of frame, dating the photograph from its edge. The correction published per convention: the spa is Ten Thousand Waves (dictated '100,000 Waves'), the Japanese-style mountain spa above Santa Fe. And the detail the record files as its best frame-edge fact to date: the conversation the photograph interrupted — routine, perfunctory, absolutely meaningless, in Hare's grading of the picture itself — was about the Santa Fe Institute, and about meeting there to admire the stars from the communal hot tub. The record's stargazing motif and its SFI corridor, standing just left of the era's most re-litigated photograph.
