In Jonathan Hare's account (S-192). Someone he knows well, met at the Aspen Health Summit — he believes 2009 — and met with many times since, with Jack Lewin, across the FDA-and-health-policy work. Hare also knew McClellan's primary funder at Brookings: a patent attorney met at the Aspen Institute, learning to fly the Gulfstream 650 he had bought, who thought McClellan 'great but way too friendly with the establishment,' wanted something more disruptive, and cut off the funding. The funder stays unnamed until Hare names him. McClellan then moved to the Duke-Margolis Center — named for Robert Margolis — with a lot more funding.
