The reintroduction, June 2026 — Marc Singer to James Kaplan, and the birthday meeting

The account as dictated, preserved verbatim. Everything elsewhere on this site that derives from it is a distillation — and where the two differ, this governs.

Redactions: all telephone numbers, and the one personal (non-corporate) email address in the thread, are redacted with visible markers per the record's S-054 precedent; the unredacted originals are held by Hare. [June 2026 — the reintroduction and the birthday meeting]

From: Jonathan Hare — June 10, 2026: Definitely do 6/15, because it's my birthday. That's how I got 90 minutes with Scott Sandell back in 2017. I asked for it as a birthday gift. After Aaron Jacobson (then a minion principle, now a partner) finished his 10 due diligence calls, we had the deal done before reunion.

From: Marc Singer <[personal email redacted]> — June 10, 2026: Please let me know which of these times do NOT work for you.

From: Suzy Burke (Senior Executive Assistant to James Kaplan, McKinsey, New York) — June 10, 2026: Hi Marc, All good here, same old McKinsey craziness. Please find a few options below. Mon 6/15, 2:30pm-3pm, 5pm-5:30pm ET; Tues 6/16, 3pm-4pm, 5pm-5:30pm ET; Mon 6/22, 2:30pm-6:30pm ET; Fri 6/26, 1:30pm-3pm, 4pm-5pm ET. [Direct line redacted]

From: Marc Singer — June 10, 2026: Hi Suzy, Thanks so much for following up. I will do my best to match James, but Friday, Monday, and Tuesday from 1pm on your time work well for me. Are those enough to start with? It's been a while since we were calendaring things for Roger and me! I hope you've been well. Best, Marc

From: James Kaplan (Distinguished Partner, McKinsey, New York) — June 6, 2026: Suzy can help! [Signature carried two phone numbers, redacted; and the newsletter: prosaictimes.substack.com]

From: Marc Singer — June 5, 2026: And I can work with your EA to find time, if you let me know who that is these days. Thanks, and have a good weekend. Marc

From: Marc Singer — June 5, 2026: I'm signed up for your prosaic times. If something else, please do add me.

From: James Kaplan — June 5, 2026: Will read and would be delighted to chat with him. Btw, I'll [add] you to my external blog distribution list if that's okay? Thanks! James

From: Marc Singer — June 5, 2026, to James Kaplan Subject: [EXT](Re)intro to Jonathan Hare and related materials.

James, Hope you are well. I've been enjoying your thoughtful LinkedIn quotes.

My friend from b-school, Jonathan Hare, who says he's met you and even participated in a CISO panel that you hosted, is going public with his latest undertaking. I think it's worth you taking at least 10-15 mins to determine if there's anything interesting for you/the Firm here given how I understand the role it could play in addressing all kinds of issues related to privacy and security in our increasingly agentic AI world.

I've attached an executive summary that has what I think is a decent summary at the very beginning. If this turns out to be a big deal - and I think there's a very decent chance it could, I don't want to be the guy who knew about it and did not flag it for you/McKinsey :)

Here's Jonathan [LinkedIn profile link]

Best, Marc

Corrections applied downstream are recorded here rather than made silently. The source above is unaltered.

Editorial record

The thread documents the mechanism more than the content: Singer's reintroduction note to Kaplan ('I don't want to be the guy who knew about it and did not flag it'), Kaplan's immediate willingness, and Hare's scheduling doctrine — take the birthday slot and ask for ninety minutes, because the QPN cannot be diligenced in the thirty McKinsey allocates, a doctrine with precedent: the ninety birthday minutes with Scott Sandell in 2017 that became the NEA investment after Aaron Jacobson's ten diligence calls. Hare states that neither Singer nor Kaplan recalled the 2008–2014 history when the June 2026 meeting was set; S-074 is that history, restated from the contemporaneous record. Published on the same notice and terms as S-074.
