Launched July 2005 by Steve Case as chairman, with John Pleasants as president and chief executive from that September. Its board of investor-directors included Colin Powell, Carly Fiorina, Frank Raines, Jim Barksdale, Steve Wiggins and Miles Gilburne.
Its stated goal was to put consumers at the center of the health system, giving them greater control, choice and convenience in meeting their healthcare needs.

The trail exists so that people who were there can reconstruct their own memories, recognize what they helped incubate, and add to or correct the record — or forward the few pages that belong to someone they know.
That goal is not achievable without a mechanism for verifying who may see what across organisational boundaries, without disclosing the thing the consent exists to protect. Revolution Health hit the identity paradox from the commercial side at exactly the moment the Markle Foundation was hitting it from the policy side — and Jonathan Hare was in both rooms.
Neither had the substrate. That is what Resilient Network Systems spent the following decade building, and what the architecture generalizes.
