The attention economy, reversed — and this site is a running instance of it
This is Jonathan Hare's account, with its provenance shown. The person or organization named has not yet claimed or corrected it.
Today's social platforms monetize attention, emotion and addiction. Engagement is optimized for compulsion and controversy, rewarding the beautiful, the provocative, the divisive and the famous. Influence is measured by visibility rather than substance, and revenue depends on driving consumption rather than improvement.
The Universal Innovator Model reverses that. Every participant — not only influencers — contributes what they uniquely create or enable: intelligence, initiative, empathy, expertise, relationships, imagination. Advocacy and engagement themselves become public goods, and every verifiable act of contribution, education or problem-solving becomes a measurable unit of impact.
Each entry below carries its own provenance — the source, and how it was processed. That is the condition on which this graph can be extended by anyone without degrading.
The trail exists so that people who were there can reconstruct their own memories, recognize what they helped incubate, and add to or correct the record — or forward the few pages that belong to someone they know.
Somebody who corrects an entry here, supplies the chalet host's name, or confirms what Myron Scholes said in a conference room in 1988 is doing something the attention economy has no way to value.
It generates no clicks. It cannot be advertised against. It is unambiguously useful, unambiguously attributable, and unambiguously the product of one person's particular life. Under the Innovator Model it is exactly what gets rewarded — recorded at the moment it happens, valued retrospectively as outcomes verify.
This record is not marketing for the architecture. It is the architecture, running, on the smallest available case.
Platforms can repurpose existing user bases, engagement tools and data infrastructure into multi-sided innovation marketplaces — the same audiences, algorithms and interfaces driving measurable gains in health, education, productivity and sustainability.
The consequence that matters most: it eliminates the financial incentive to algorithmically amplify addictive, polarizing or destructive content. Not by regulating it. By making the alternative more profitable.
There is no single root. This is one view of the graph, from this node — what you see depends on where you enter and what you are looking for.
Thousands of concurrent rating schemes. Nobody decides centrally what a contribution was worth.

Open →why engagement built on shame failsHuman morality has never been sufficient. That is a design finding, not a complaint.
Open →This record is not biography attached to a technical claim. Each runs into the other: the experiences below produced the mechanisms, and the mechanisms are what those experiences turned out to require.
This page is the anecdote — the thing that draws you in. The explainers are where the mechanism is set out in full, with the problem it solves and the condition on which it fails.

Public contributions earn Publicity Premium; bringing others who were there earns Cascade Premium. Everything is valued retrospectively as outcomes verify, so nothing has to be priced up front.
