Founder of InfoCanvas — the one-person company he started while Jonathan Hare was away on sabbatical, and of which he offered Hare half and the chief executive's chair on his return. Renamed Consilient. Previously chief technology officer at Evolve Software.
InfoCanvas extended Evolve's asynchronous, loosely coupled, fine-grained object persistence model into Sitelets: small portable agents that could run in a browser or inside an HTML email client.

After Hare closed the bridge financing that blocked Oak Hill's dilutive note, Freed mentioned he was going down to Oak Hill — something he had never done before, Hare having handled all financing. Hare thought nothing of it. A few days later Oak Hill exercised its right to replace him as chief executive.
The record does not establish any connection between those two events, and none is asserted. The sequence is recorded because Hare recorded it; Freed's own account is not in this record and would be welcome.
