Dan Lynch — Internet Hall of Fame inductee, the man who managed the ARPANET's transition to TCP/IP alongside Vint Cerf and Bob Kahn, and Bill Joy's collaborator in porting TCP/IP to UNIX — joined a Santa Fe Institute-crowd dinner with Jonathan Hare, Adam Dell, Alisa Mall and John Clippinger, and delivered the record's most startling closure: from his missile-defense years at Lockheed before ISI, he personally knew William L. Whitson from the ARPA days. The continuum stopped being an argument and became a dinner guest: Whitson helped build the silos that required a survivable network; Lynch, Cerf, Kahn and Joy built that network's protocols; and the man at the table was building the trust and settlement layers the pioneers had left out.
