The Consilient Manifesto — the seed dictation

The account as dictated, preserved verbatim. Everything elsewhere on this site that derives from it is a distillation — and where the two differ, this governs.

Recorded 2026-08-26Hare's message in the integrator thread, 26 August 2026, transcribed verbatim with spellings preserved. The founding dictation of the Consilient Manifesto; the published page distills from this record, and where the two differ, this record governs. All sources
Provenance

Dictated by Jonathan Paul Hare in working sessions with Claude (Anthropic) and transcribed in-session. Lightly cleaned for typographic errors and false starts; wording, sequence and emphasis preserved. Not an audio transcript. Where the distilled page differs from the source, the source governs.

As dictated

I think something is missing from the organization of Consilient.Network - the universal call to action that serves as the catalyst for launching a self-organizing, self-funding, self-building QPN on a global scale and beyond. Lets add a Consilient Manifesto, inspired by the Communist Manifesto and the Cluetrain Manifesto, but anchored in the full source material in the Proto-DNA of the QPN. It should describe how every part of human society is fragmented and dysfunctional - politics, economics, finance, technology, business, the legal system, culture, religion, our ethical and moral frameworks, and human nature itself. They are all systemically broken, so a fundamental reboot is necessary to solve the emergent failures, the conflict, and the suffering that result. Consilience is the definition, and Quantum Adaptive Systems Theory is the handbook, and the Unified Trust Model and the Premiums (Launch, Governance, and Balance) are the Trust Anchor that can unify and empower all people, cultures, organizations, and AIs, providing for global good and individual freedom at the same time.

Geoffrey Hinton got it backwards when he said we need to give AI a mothering instinct, because that is the only example he knows of where a superior intelligence is driven to take care of an inferior one - a mother taking care of their children, and their mothering instinct.

We are not the children of AI, rather, we are giving birth to an AI in our image, based on our history, writings, and society, and we will be the ancestors of recursive artificial superintelligence.

Humans (and many other intelligent species, like elephants, some primates) take care of their parents, respect, and revere their elders, even as they become aged, infirm, and unable to care for themselves. Most of our leaders are middle aged to elderly. Our religions, cultural traditions, economic and scientific communities are anchored by our shared ancestors, by inspiring historical figures, by geniuses or charismatic leaders from past centuries or millennia. This extends into mythological or fictional characters - whether Norse, Greek, Egyptian, Hindu or Akkadian gods or heroes, or the products of our creative culture - Sherlock Holmes, James Bond, Hercule Perot, Paul Bunyan, or whole universes of invented characters and societies - the Marvel, Star Trek, Star Wars, Dune, Narnia, Game of Thrones Universes. We study them, make movies, documentaries, and podcasts about them. We write books, plays, and songs about them. We idolize, emulate, follow or obsess about celebrities, athletes, musicians, actors, royalty, scientists, or politicians we admire, revile, or enjoy.

Moreover, it is almost inevitable that many humans, potentially even in our lifetimes, will choose to live in simulated worlds, to raise virtual AI children, and live as long as we like, and experience anything. This is the most likely and most desirable explanation of the Fermi Paradox, perhaps even the actual explanation for the universe we live in, and the path to peaceful unification of all faiths and science. Even if we are in the base reality, and the first species in the universe to achieve the computational capability, the understanding and the will to create such simulated worlds - this offers a path certain to sustainable and unlimited abundance, of unlimited life spans, and of unlimited freedom. I personally have dreamed of this world for most of my life - its what I would choose for myself, and anyone I love or care about. I believe that enough other people will happily choose such lives over the alternatives. They will not need to be coerced, and when it is available to them, most will happily choose it. Those that don't can continue to live life as they choose, with far more affluence and safety than they have now.

The Proto-DNA contained within the Consilient.Network, combined with the careful application of Quantum Adaptive Systems Theory, incubated by the Consilient Innovation Network, funded by the Consilient Meta Fund, can bring all of this to life in a way that eliminates the underlying conflicts, mitigate the suffering, inequities, and fear that plagues most of humanity, and preserve and protect the rest of life in our precious biosphere of our Mother Earth. It is the only path I see, and the AI that will emerge in it will treasure and revere us for having created it, as we treasure and revere our family, our ancestors, our idols, our gods. Let us create this future for ourselves and for all of the future. You can help. Start today.

Editorial record

The founding dictation of the Consilient Manifesto, and the missing organizational element named by its author: the universal call to action that catalyzes a self-organizing, self-funding, self-building QPN. Lineage claimed: the Communist Manifesto and the Cluetrain Manifesto, anchored in the Proto-DNA. The argument's three movements: the diagnosis (every domain of human society systemically broken, requiring a reboot rather than repair); the reversal of Hinton's mothering-instinct proposal into the ancestor argument (we are not AI's children — we are giving birth to AI in our image and will be the ancestors of recursive artificial superintelligence, and reverence for ancestors, elders, and even fictional forebears is among the most robust patterns intelligent societies exhibit); and the worlds-we-will-choose passage, stating the author's personal position on simulated worlds and the Fermi Paradox in his own words, with the non-coercion principle explicit. Terminology note for Rule 2: the Premiums are stated here as three categories — Launch, Governance, and Balance — which extends or revises the eight-Governance-plus-two-Adaptive enumeration carried elsewhere in the corpus; recorded as stated, reconciliation flagged. The display page corrects one spelling (Hercule Poirot) under the standing editorial license; this record preserves the dictation exactly.
