Going back to the Pat Toomey story — we used to do this dozens and dozens of times. I was in DC so much. I always tried to see my friends at the NSA and so on.
Anyway, I tried to explain to him why I liked Dianne Feinstein — I told him she was my favourite politician. And he said, why? Apparently he thought that since she was from San Francisco she was some sort of communist or something.
And I said, well, you've got to understand. She was the first politician I followed, and by San Francisco standards she's like a right-wing Republican. You have no idea how liberal the politicians in San Francisco can be, and they regard her as a turncoat. She's actually extremely reasonable and well principled, and very strong in defence and intelligence matters.
I used to meet with — she was the chairman, or at least a member, of the Senate Select Intelligence Committee. Her team had me present to them many times. She's great, and I love her.
I actually flew on a flight with her once. I always flew Virgin, and they finally got a gate at Reagan National. Of course the reason Reagan National still exists is that they wanted an airport within twenty minutes of their offices. I always flew first class and so did she. Once I switched seats up to the first row — and unfortunately, had I not, I would have been sitting right next to her in row two. She was in row two with this guy, I forget his name, who was the chief information security officer or chief privacy officer of Meta at the time. Or Yahoo. I can't remember which.

Dianne Feinstein chaired the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence from 2009 to 2015 and served on it either side of that; Hare's uncertainty about whether she chaired or merely sat on it is resolved on the page. That period overlaps the Resilient Network Systems years, which is consistent with his account of presenting to committee staff.
The executive travelling with her is unidentified, and the company — Meta or Yahoo — is unresolved. Both are flagged as outstanding. Note that if the flight predates 2021 the company would have been Facebook rather than Meta, which may help narrow it.
The observation about Reagan National's survival is Hare's, and is a common enough view in Washington to be unremarkable rather than a claim.
