Gary Gensler was present at the December 10th, 2008 Obama transition session that Reed Hundt organized — the meeting on how privacy-preserving internet infrastructure could enable the regulatory infrastructure for the 21st century, from which this record's Goldman-margins episode descends. His subsequent public arc — CFTC chairman through the post-crisis reforms, later SEC chairman — is the reason the record marks the seat: the person across the table spent the next fifteen years running the regulatory infrastructure of the 20th.
