Elvis Presley served his Army deployment at Ray Barracks in Friedberg — an hour north of Heidelberg — from October 1958 to March 1960, and because of William L. Whitson's elite rank, Maggie Whitson crossed paths with the King of Rock and Roll at a military social mixer during those years. Like practically every girl of the era, he was her absolute celebrity crush, and remained so well into her late twenties.
