VAX, VMS, PDP — and the machines Hare learned on

The minicomputer company whose VAX systems running VMS were the primary environment in Berkeley's engineering departments, and whose PDP line ran real-time control in manufacturing and scientific applications.
Later a major Blyth Software customer, paying millions for an Omnis connector to Rdb, its relational database. Sun's rise — Bechtolsheim's workstation design and Joy's operating system — is described elsewhere in this graph as leapfrogging the VAX.
