Olchi Skant — the proposal in the Stanford Quad, and the twenty-year principle

The account as dictated, preserved verbatim. Everything elsewhere on this site that derives from it is a distillation — and where the two differ, this governs.

Recorded 2026-08-19Hare's message, transcribed verbatim with spellings preserved. All sources
Provenance

Dictated by Jonathan Paul Hare in working sessions with Claude (Anthropic) and transcribed in-session. Lightly cleaned for typographic errors and false starts; wording, sequence and emphasis preserved. Not an audio transcript. Where the distilled page differs from the source, the source governs.

Can you add Olchi Skant, my sweetest love, and the only remaining Consilient Angel, and the only woman I ever proposed marriage to, while I had a ring in my possession, on bended knee, in the Stanford Quad, at my Stanford GSB reunion, and which was accepted. That made her my only official fiancée. In all honesty, there are a few others where the sheer power of the moment forced me to propose my undying love and openess to marriage, but which never progressed because they either didn't believe me, or I remembed that my mission to save the world forbade me such indulgences.

Olchi and my story is beautiful, but interrupted for 20 years until recently. She is now married, with three beautiful children, living in the mountains near Santa Cruz. I hadn't seen her in 20 years because I feared I could not resist her, nor she me, and I didn't want to be the cause of marital troubles - I have principles, and sometimes physical absence is the only path to abstinence. I choose that path quite often.

Olchi is originally from Belarus, having escaped to Austria on foot as a teenager, without her loving family, with her incredible beauty as her International passport - one recognized worldwide by nearly every country. She married her first two boyfriends in Austria, because she only had her Belarusian internal passport (the USSR required passports for its citizens to travel between republics, which did not allow international travel), She danced in clubs (regular nightclubs - she was the one on the little elevated stages, in nighclub attire, so everyone had someone beautiful to admire, as she danced by herself. American's won't be familiar with this - it is very common in the coolest bars and nightclubs across Europe and in resort areas around the world.

Editorial record

Published at Hare's direction, with the care settings stated so they can be checked. Two elements concern her inner life and her history rather than his, and the page handles them at the record's most protective register: the display carries his twenty-year absence as his own fear and his own principle, leaving the source's mutual phrasing here in the verbatim where it belongs as his account; and her Austrian marriages are carried as his telling of a survival story from the era of Soviet internal passports — a teenager who crossed borders on foot without her family — with her own account invited on her own terms, including the standing offer that her page be reshaped or withdrawn entirely on her word, which for this page overrides every other convention. Her current life is stated only at the resolution Hare gave: married, three children, the mountains near Santa Cruz — no finer. 'The only remaining Consilient Angel' records that she was, and remains, one of Consilient's angel investors — plausibly among the dozen angels, employees and friends of the S-023 account whose notes Hare personally guaranteed and honoured after September 11th; the record flags the identification as its reading, awaiting Hare's confirmation. The confession about other near-proposals — the sheer power of the moment, the mission that forbade such indulgences — is published as what it is: Hare's own account, at his own expense, in the house style. Addendum, per S-091: the record's flagged reading of 'Consilient Angel' as angel investor was wrong. The definition, from Hare: friends or girlfriends who supported the journey with love and companionship, or belief and understanding — Olchi's investment was loving him back. Display pages corrected; this note is the published trail.
