The Ireland connection was recent oral tradition — it got confusing for us kids, because we were hearing three family lineages over centuries. Part of the Hare family moved to Belfast with the conquest of Ireland. The original Hares were English from England who happened to live in Ireland, whereas the O'Hares were Irish descended from the Hares — that was what I was told. I didn't personally read the book that recorded the lineage; my parents and uncles and aunts and grandmothers did.
The Whitsons and the Wickwires were very affluent, especially the Wickwires. Apparently the Wickwire name came from the manufacture of metal wire, which was a valuable skill back in the day. They owned some of the earliest factories from the beginning of the Industrial Revolution — the very beginning, when they relied on water wheels for power rather than steam — and one of them owned the shipyard where the Mayflower was built. It was recorded as a status thing, mocking the Puritans, considered heretics almost, when they fled for freedom.
It's worth noting that the Puritans were not very puritanical. Recent research studying the bones from their graveyards showed that venereal disease was highly prevalent when the Puritans arrived — apparently they had a lot of extramarital sex.
The reason I bring this up is that the UTM and the Quantum Genome are designed to allow all cultures, religions, belief systems and individual value systems — to unify them with a common core of universal principles expressed in the UTM Premiums, reinforced by economic gradients and evolutionary selection rather than oppression, while at the same time allowing unlimited diversity and freedom of conscience, with Herd Immunity so autocrats can't subjugate their populations indefinitely.
Another reason I call out these hypocrisies — like the Mayflower Society, so proud of their ancestry — is that we not only need to be more tolerant of each other's differences, but also we shouldn't feel shame and lie about our human nature. It's the source of much human angst and self-loathing and depression, and we need to teach everyone it is okay to be yourself, accept your human nature rather than covering it up and feeling shame, and stop judging others for being human or being different. My father highlighted this all the time. He told me I was named after the biblical Jonathan, who he claimed was King David's best friend and homosexual lover. The church bought into the best friend part, and had no comment on the homosexual part.
Dad told me about the Bantu speakers conquering the indigenous population — this happened repeatedly, over thousands of years. Humans have been in Africa for 200,000 years, so what is 1,000 years one way or the other. None of us was alive when the Afrikaners conquered South Africa.
My father left his master's program at Stanford after accusing his professor of being a racist — not expelled, just a parting shot. He dated black women in his teenage years, and married two of them after my mother. Most of my siblings are half black, and my dad marched with MLK, right next to him, not behind him. Often in front of MLK, at the very front of the march, so he could record it as a student photojournalist. Anybody want to judge my dad for teaching me what he taught me about race relations?
I went to Malcolm X school in Berkeley on Ashby Avenue in the fourth and fifth grade, where I was one of four white children in a class of 30. I learned martial arts to defend myself — but only Aikido, so I could fall without hurting myself. Only defensive martial arts. I used to blow up my cheeks like a baboon, a subconscious genetic trait to intimidate rivals, when I was surrounded by African American grade schoolers — not beating me, just messing with me because I was a minority. And then a teachers' strike forced me to switch to Pleasant Hill Junior Academy, which took hours on BART every day. There was one black student in the whole school. We couldn't say 'Gosh' or 'Gee Whiz', because both were considered taking the Lord's name in vain. Gosh meant God. Gee Whiz was Jesus.
My history gives me the luxury of violating cultural norms without being branded a racist or a heathen — at least not honestly. I wear it on my sleeve to give others permission to join me in my individuality and lack of shame for being myself, and also for being in touch with my indigenous culture — the commune where people were naked a lot — and for not being embarrassed about it. I'm proud of being myself.

Three qualifications carried onto the distilled pages.
The Mayflower. An earlier note in this record stated the ship was built at Harwich and the family claim was wrong. That overstated it. Harwich is the usual answer because Christopher Jones was based there and the ship was registered there, but no building record survives. The Wickwire claim is unverifiable rather than disproved, and the page says so.
The O'Hare etymology. Irish Ó means grandson or descendant of, the counterpart of Mac; O'Hare is Ó hÍr, an independent Gaelic surname older than any English Hare presence in Ireland. The illegitimacy story is a folk etymology attached to many Irish surnames. It is recorded rather than removed, because what a colonial gentry family told itself about the people whose land it held is itself evidence.
South Africa. Bantu-speaking peoples did expand southward and did displace and absorb Khoisan populations, and conquest in the region long predates European arrival — that part of the account holds. But Bantu-speaking farmers were established in what is now South Africa from roughly the third to fifth century CE, against Dutch settlement at the Cape in 1652. The compression matters because the near-simultaneous-arrival framing is the discredited apartheid-era ‘empty land’ thesis, and the author's point survives without it. His own later formulation — repeated conquest over thousands of years, and 200,000 years of humans in Africa — is the accurate one and is what the pages carry.
Not carried across: the claim about venereal disease in Puritan graveyard remains, which could not be verified against any specific study. The wider point about the gap between the Mayflower Society's pride and the actual conduct of its ancestors is retained without that specific evidentiary claim.
