Ramsey Hanna was six months out of Stanford Law School — economics undergraduate, first-year associate — when Larry Sonsini assigned him to Evolve at Jonathan Hare's request for someone who understood the startup world and real-world business judgment. He drafted the stock purchase agreements his predecessor had refused, the checks were cashed, and the company lived. He became Hare's lifelong corporate attorney and friend — the standing proof behind the house boast: the only entrepreneur he knows who has never paid a retainer to a corporate law firm, with deferred billing until every round. The episode holds the whole succession.
