An older man living on the Sausalito mudflats in the 1970s, hiding in plain sight, who had personally known Vladimir Lenin and had been present at Leon Trotsky's assassination in Mexico in 1940.
He debated pure Marxism with Jonathan Hare's father aboard the sinking ferry while Hare, a child, sat on the floor turning through 1930s revolution maps and listening.
