Freeman Dyson observed in 1960 that a mature technological species should be expected to surround its star with a swarm of collectors. The essay does the arithmetic in chapter five: the sun radiates roughly twenty trillion times humanity's total use, capture one part in a hundred thousand and you command two hundred million civilizations' worth — built from lunar and asteroid material, violating no physics, requiring only decades of engineering we already know how to begin. It is the load-bearing number under the world-building chapters, and it is graded in the ledger as sound extrapolation, not promise. The essay holds the full argument.
