My favourite TV series as a child in the 1970s was 'Connections' — a BBC/PBS series hosted by James Burke if I recall, where each episode started with some innovation back in ancient times and traced a linear path through subsequent innovations or inventions up until modern time, e.g. computers. This got me thinking about understanding how innovations evolve and recombine over time, and got me interested in studying the history of science and technology.
Another [model] are books about histories of particular families — royal dynasties, the Rothschilds, the Medicis in Florence, Churchill — or countries, religions. It's a good organising principle.
[On navigation] The menu item labelled 'Paths' seems outdated and stale. What about renaming: histories, arcs, graphs or connections. This section could be subdivided by people or families, investors, enterprises, governments, issues.
The objective is to acknowledge the historical contributions, create cohesive narrative arcs that can be followed, provide context to give individual entries meaning, facilitate engagement, feedback and validation, and ongoing viral growth and evangelism.

The diagnosis that prompted it: an audit at the time found 97 of 190 entities appeared in no curated route, reachable only by search or an alphabetical index. Hand-authored narratives cannot fix that, because curation does not scale with contribution. Lenses are traversal rules over the facet dimensions already derived from the corpus, so coverage rose from 49% to 94% and adding an entity now adds it to every lens it belongs in with no curation step.
