The sixth cascade

Faith & Tradition

Institutions with pre-existing constituency recognition can commit as Trust Authorities, authoring Trust Taxonomies for their own constituencies. Convergence emerges through reuse density and the natural selection of taxonomies rather than through coercion — which is why this cascade works where every previous attempt at values-alignment-by-committee has failed.

Part I

Autonomy without agreement

Every previous attempt at values-alignment-by-committee failed on the same rock: whose values? The architecture's answer is that the question does not have to be settled, because coherence does not require agreement.

Unlimited concurrent Trust Authorities author unlimited coexisting Trust Taxonomies, none required to agree with, defer to, or even acknowledge any other. A healthcare domain under HIPAA, a Catholic family's Personal Privacy Network under Catholic taxonomies, a secular-ethical community under its own criteria, and a sovereign regulatory perimeter coexist over the same resources — because what must compose is the transitions between them, not the beliefs.

What that makes possible

Any institution may designate what counts as worthy within its own framework. Every person controls their own governance identity. Every delegate operates within delegated authority, and every AI agent acts within boundaries it cannot override.

The architecture is deliberately silent where any tradition is definite — and that silence is a property of the design rather than a gap in it.

The Catholic Church, with 1.3 billion faithful and a two-millennium institutional infrastructure, is the largest single candidate Trust Authority on Earth. It is not the only one, and the mechanism does not privilege it.

Part II

Three independent calls

Three calls to action, from entirely different traditions and methodologies, converge on the same architecture.

E. O. Wilson

Half-Earth

The proposal to set aside half the planet's surface for other species — which requires ecological value to be measurable and priceable, and therefore requires attribution that has never existed.

King Charles III

Terra Carta

A charter putting nature, people and planet at the heart of value creation — which requires the externality to be internalized at the point of transaction rather than regulated afterwards.

Pope Leo XIV

Magnifica Humanitas

On Safeguarding the Human Person in the Time of Artificial Intelligence, signed 15 May 2026 on the 135th anniversary of Rerum Novarum and presented at the Vatican on 25 May 2026.

Why convergence from different methods is the point

The Premium framework, the Governance Premiums for Humanity and Nature, Universal Ownership and the Consilient Nature and Humanity Trust were all specified before Magnifica Humanitas was written — descending from a specification written for the E.O. Wilson Foundation in 2006 and a commission Wilson gave in person in 2013.

The encyclical did not shape them. What it supplies is independent moral confirmation from an entirely different methodological tradition — which is precisely the kind of convergence Wilson's consilience thesis predicts when two disciplines are describing the same underlying structure.
Part III

§109 and the Premium framework

The encyclical's sharpest sentence is §109: social justice is not only a goal to be safeguarded after technologies are deployed, but a condition that must shape their very design from the outset.

That is almost word for word the thesis of the Premium framework — design-time embedding of moral constraints into the architecture of coordination, rather than post-deployment remediation of their absence.

Encyclical concernPremiumHow it is enforced
The inviolability of human dignityHumanityResources and derivatives serving human-centered outcomes are preferentially matched and routed; the premium cannot be stripped from any downstream derivative
Integral ecologyNatureEcological alignment is priced into matching and settlement, internalizing the externality at the point of transaction
The universal destination of goodsSharingZero-marginal-cost reuse means a resource shared is not a resource lost, so the doctrine becomes economically ordinary rather than sacrificial
Against technological determinism and uniformityFreedomUnlimited Trust Authorities operate concurrently; no single moral framework can be imposed
SubsidiarityProportionality & BalanceContribution weighted relative to the contributor's capacity; no single dimension optimized to the exclusion of the rest; decisions made and value captured at the level closest to the activity

Universal Capitalism and the encyclical's hardest question

The encyclical navigates between two organizing insights it declines to choose between: that markets are the most effective mechanism yet found for coordinating production, and that markets systematically fail to value what matters most about human beings. Catholic Social Doctrine has held both since Rerum Novarum without a mechanism reconciling them.

Universal Capitalism is that mechanism rather than a compromise between the two: an economy recognizing and rewarding every form of capital within a single framework. The dignity-of-work concern is answered structurally — work that produces value is attributed and settled on, whether or not it takes the form of employment, and whether or not any employer chose to price it.

Part IV

Where the alignment is limited

Stating the boundaries is part of the assessment. Three areas of limited tension are acknowledged in the governing drilldown, and each is a boundary the Trust Taxonomy result is designed to hold rather than a defect in the alignment.
